Marching bands and football

A week or so ago Amber had a Saturday itinerary for us. First we stopped by a local church's fall festival and browsed the booths and did the kid activities.

Afterwards we went to the marching band exhibition show for the high schools in our area. Amber was excited to show the kids what she did in high school and the kids thought it was pretty cool.

The show was delayed due to weather concerns and we didn't want to wait all day, so we left early.

Carmen had asked me several times to go to a "ball game" like the ones she saw me watching on TV, so last weekend I took her and Olivia to the local high school football game. They thought it was fun to be there, but lost interest quickly when they realized they didn't know what was going on (it's hard to explain football to little girls who can't see the game well anyway). Their favorite part was the halftime show, where they got to watch the marching bands.

We ended up leaving at the end of the 3rd quarter, when they were so tired and bored they admitted they'd rather go to bed than stay. It was probably a good thing, since there were a million cars there, but it's too bad because it was actually a good game.

Rockets

I got some preseason Rockets tickets through work, so Amber and I went on a date to see them play the Memphis Grizzlies. We weren't expecting much, seeing a how it was the first home preseason game, and our free seats were unsurprisingly at the very top, but the home team came away with a victory.

The basketball was mildly entertaining, but the best part was probably the activities on the top level of the Toyota Center, like arcade-style basketball, skeeball, and areas where you could compare yourself (jump, shoe size, reach, etc.) to NBA players. Here's me comparing wingspans win Yao Ming.

If you ever wondered what Amber would look like in clothes meant for someone two feet taller than her, this is it.
