Now that the weather is getting warmer, we decided to take a little mini-vacation to Galveston last weekend. Amber picked me up from work on Friday and we battled through traffic to get to the beach condo we had rented. Here's the view from the balcony.
Galveston was still a little beat up from Hurricane Ike and some of the beach spots were a little rough around the edges, obviously rebuilt, but it suited us just fine. There was sand and water, and that's all the kids needed to have a great time. Here's Carmen on Friday night.
The kids would have stayed on the beach as long as we would let them. They were having a lot of fun.
Carmen was especially delighted to play in the dirty, wet sand. As I was watching her, she grabbed a big handful of wet mud/sand and plopped in on top of her head. She seemed very pleased with herself.
Olivia had lots of fun finding shells and washing them off and putting them in her bucket. Unlike Carmen, who would walk right into the water on her own (until the waves knocked her over), Olivia usually wanted a little help.
As you can see from some of those pictures, the weather didn't fully cooperate for our beach vacation. It was overcast and windy all weekend, which meant we didn't get burned as easily, but it was also just cold enough that at the end of the night I eventually had to drag a blue, chattery-teethed Olivia out of the water and take her back inside.
Olivia was very excited to stay in our "little house" and have her own bed. The condo was newly remodeled and very nice, notwithstanding the ineptitude of the management.
